Personal statements

How to start writing your personal statement This is one of the first things universities look at, you need to start writing it early and have it properly structured.

What not to write in your personal statement Admission tutors read hundreds (thousands) of personal statements each year, and there are somethings they HATE

Applications for Medicine

What A-Levels do you need for medicine? I’ve looked at a range of universities (if there is one you think I’ve missed let me know!!) and what A-Levels subjects and grades they want you to have. I think you’ll be surprised by the results!

BMAT or UKCAT? Nearly every medicine school require that you take wither the BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) or the UKCAT (The UK Clinical Aptitude Test) listed here are the requirements for the different schools.

What is the BMAT? (BioMedical Admissions Test) Needed for some medicine and dentistry courses, this test is taken in November. Testing problem solving and knowledge.

What is the UKCAT? (The UK Clinical Aptitude Test) This is a computer based test taken between July and October, not based on A-Level content more on ability to solve problems

Work Experience While not an essential requirement, the majority of universities will expect you have to have some form of work experience, the Medical Schools Council has some excellent advice.
